Can I get married in any United Methodist church?
The decision to perform the ceremony is the right and responsibility of the pastor, in accordance with the laws of the state and The United Methodist Church. All plans should be approved by the pastor. The pastor's 'due counsel with the parties involved' prior to marriage, mandated by The Book of Discipline, include, in addition to premarital counseling, discussing and planning the service with them and informing them of policies or guidelines established by the congregation on such matters as decorations, photography, and audio or video recording. Any leadership roles taken by other clergy should be at the invitation of the pastor of the church where the service is held. The Pianist or person in charge of the music should be consulted and work with the couple in all decisions on music selection."

Ministerial Services
The date for your wedding must be cleared through a minister of Ohltown as well as the church calendar. She will then set up meeting dates for pre-marital counseling and to go over your wedding plans. The honorarium for the minister should be discussed during the meeting.

Music - Pianist
We have a lovely grand piano that is only played by the church pianist. You will need to ask the pianist if she is available and discuss with her your desires for the type of music you would prefer. If you are using pre-recorded music, you must give a stipend for the sound tech.

Other things to consider:
Flowers, Candles, Isle runner
You may arrange any suitable decoration in the Sanctuary. Candelabras are available for use, but the couple must purchase the candles. There is no isle cloth available through the church. If you wish, you may coordinate this with an outside source.
Photography, (Still and Video)
Pictures requiring a flash or special lighting may be taken before or after the ceremony, and during the processional or recessional. Pictures not requiring special lighting may be taken during the ceremony as long as it is not disturbing to the ceremony. No photographer or other persons taking pictures during the ceremony are permitted to move or stand in such a position as to be disruptive of the devotional atmosphere of the occasion. Arrangements for audio recordings must be made in advance.
Custodial services
The custodian will be required to clean up after your wedding and therefore must be compensated. We do not allow the throwing of rice or confetti because of environmental concerns. Bird seed may be used but must be thrown outside. Bubbles are also acceptable.
